Kim Kemp – Hornchurch
Division Commissioner
I joined Brownies when I was 7 (there were no Rainbows then), and transferred to Guides at age 10/11, where I achieved my Queens Guide award. I then went on to Rangers, leaving when the leader moved away from the area and the unit closed.
I came back into Guiding some years later, following a conversation with the wife of one of my husband’s friends. She was talking about going to Guide camp and I said “I used to be a guide” – to which she replied “We need leaders. I’ll give you Briony’s number. It’s only 2 hours a week!!” I’m sure we’ve all heard that before!!
So I became a leader. Originally in Bedfordshire and then in Hornchurch when I moved here in 2006.
I currently run 6th Hornchurch Guides, and am also a leader at 12th Hornchurch Brownies. I was the District Commissioner in Hornchurch East for just over a year before this appointment. I love being part of Girlguiding – seeing the girls develop and achieve amazing things, and being a member of such a great organisation.
